Ok I am literally having trouble. Dying a lot tried every pattern there is from what I know and even tried with save states. I've been watching some videos and these people literally have just about the same exact equipment as me. They are a little lower level than me but this is what I am not understanding. How in the world are they taking less magic damage than me. I'm seeing this one guy who takes less damage from luminaire for all his chars. Chrono Marle Robo are taking damage for 700. My Chrono takes damage for 850 with a prism helm and 1050 without. and Robo just dies with or without prism helm. What am I missing here. Is there some extra magic defense buff I'm missing that I'm not knowing about? I'm double star on magic defense. I just can't seem to pull off all my good attacks without giga mutants spells 1 hitting me or just curing without attacking.
HELP GIGA MUTANT! I AM NOT UNDERSTANDING THE CONCEPTS!

Crono is the only one who can survive Luminaire without Lightning resist. Other characters will need White Vest, White Mail, or R'bow Helm

Forgive me but I am just going to rant right now.
I am sick and tired of this freaken Giga Mutant. I'm about to try and fight lavos the bucket way. I've tried strategys of switching blue mails, white mails, white vests, blue vests, rainbow helms, prism helms all that and this giga mutant just pisses me off. Hey you seem to be doing pretty well right now why don't we throw in a luminaire that somehow jumps from 800-3000 freaken damage. Oh Marle's max health, why don't we throw in a fire 2 and not give you any time to heal whatsoever and get killed by hexagon mist. Oh Marle is max health that's ok lets have Hexagon mist hit for more than 999 health as well. Ohhh bout to heal to prepare for luminaire how bout I throw a shuriken to make you die or better yet throw in a lightning 2 that instead of 200 hits for 800 that way you cant get out of this.
WHAT THE CRAP!! THIS FIGHT IS IMPOSSIBLE NO MATTER HOW I TRY AND SWITCH MY STRATEGIES!!

The only way I could beat him was Crono + Marle + Frog.
I obtained EVERY SINGLE SPEED TAB available and fed them all to Crono (speed 15), Marle (speed 16 ** ), and Frog (speed 16 **).
Jack Frog's magic up so his heal hits for more than a Lapis.
Crono - Blue Mail, Prism Helm, Frenzy Band
Frog - White Mail, Prism Helm, Rage Band
Marle - Prism Helm, White Mail, Amulet
My survival tactic: do not let ANYONE fall because it takes too long to rebuff. Heal heal heal!
Use Marle to Haste the entire party.
While Marle is buffing, have Crono (lapis) and Frog heal the party.
There are gaps between Luminaire and Hexagon Mist where you can use them for healing and hit with a double tech in between. Don't be too aggressive and double/triple - that arrogance got me wiped 99/100 times.
Alternate between Frog and Marle healing as appropriate.
Heal MP with Elixirs always.
I usually hit with Luminaire. Ice Sword if Marle has a minute to spare... Spire if Frog does. Don't triple tech.
If someone is hit with poison, HEAL THE STAT IMMIEDIATELY!!
Crono does not get speed priority because Frog's Heal and Marle's Life2 are more important.
Most rounds consisted of Crono hitting with Luminaire, and Frog and Marle healing. If you can throw a tech RIGHT after getting hit with Giga's lightning and before he throws water/ice - more damaged and it will speed up the process.
This same strategy failed by a hair when my speed was in the 13-14 range. Speed is the secret.
Edited to add: Poison status will cause characters to take greater damage (this is how Luminaire hits Crono for 3k and kills Marle in your OP). An amulet will protect against Poison, so stick that on Marle and she can be your healer/reviver.

So the poison actually takes the greater damage. How would I of figured it out. I literally though it was randomized or because I did too much damage. That's so interesting. Well I guess I better take precaution. But how can I heal poison when I need to take priority over curing?

The amulet will always protect one person, so leave it on your primary healer.
It's the black cloud rainbow burp blast looking attack that will inflict poison. When cast, however, there is a chance your characters can defend against it. I'm not sure which stat determines this.
Whenever Giga Mutant throws that attack, I check for the blue bubbles above everyone's heads - and then *immediately* throw a heal item to clear the status on whoever has the bubbles. I've almost always had *just* enough time to heal poison, heal party and barely survive his next attack.
Because speed is so important, I also set my battle mode to Wait and slowed the battle speed way the heck down. It makes a huge difference. I'm really proud and like to play on active when I can, but I died too many times fumbling for commands or searching for items.
I'm waiting for New Game + to take my revenge on this guy.

now those 2nd row of 4 panels are killing me off. I'm surprised I kill the 1st row of 4th panels the 1st or 2nd time around. Guess it's just luck huh?

Black mails will absorb the spark attack.
You can still get unlucky and die if they all throw rockets, but you can beat them!
I also stuck a Haste Helm on Frog (Robo would work too) so my party can heal without waiting for Marle to cast haste... those Panels are FAST!
