Anyway, two small things to add to this:
1. If things seem utterly weird, you've probably patched on a dirty ISO. I say this due to DrBretto's post, just to cover that. Dirty ISO just means it isn't a clean version of the vanilla version, either it being corrupt somewhere in there or that it is a previously patched ISO.
2. Very related to point 1 - when you patch, never patch on a formerly patched iso, always patch from a clean Vanilla ISO. Now you're playing content 1.3.0.6 I guess, and whenever that is being updated to 1.3.0.8 or something like that, you can't patch the 1.3.0.6 iso. That ISO has done its job and you can throw it away when that day comes. This seems like common sense to us, but for someone coming in fresh, games usually are patched on the already patched version. In the mod community, that is rarely the case.
I thought I had some good shit to say, but post writing this, pre pushing post (harr), I think I barely make sense. Just got home from a 16 hour shift, so I guess my brain is a little whack... if any clarifications are needed, ask someone else... or me after I've had some sleep.

I have been a huge fan of this game since I first played it 13-14 years ago (Just did the math... My goodness!) I don't know how many times I've played through it - it's got to be at least a dozen times. This game, in my opinion, is the best of the FF series. I would even say this would be one of the top three games I've played in my entire life. I've had many arguments over beer with my friends trying to prove that point. Hard core customization RPG with a storyline as adult and complex than Game of Thrones. Near PERFECTION. But, as you all know, the difficulty is the only weakness of the game after a couple times around. I could never understand how you could run through an infinite number of random battles and have to get to Elmdor or the other end battles to meet a decent challenge.
This is a game I always seem to come back to. The lone reason I still have my original Playstation (if only newer gen systems were as reliable). I stumbled across your site when I wanted to play FFT again off the disk on my laptop.
I'm literally geeking out right now. I just got started on 1.3 (easy mod to start) only 10 minutes ago and I'm already stoked. I almost jumped out of my chair when the Knight in the first battle at Orbonne Monastary Phoenix Down-ed the Chemist! Then one the Archers (Marksmen is going to take some getting used to) Caution-ed! Hahaha. I know I have a lot more to discover and I think that may be more exciting to me than the XBox One and PS4 releases this week.
I cannot imagine how much work and testing it took to get this up and running. I'm not the most computer literate person but I know it must have been a lot of hard work. This game will always have a huge place in my gamer heart and I am pleased to be able to experience it a difficulty level that I feel I should be playing it at.
I didn't know where to put this on the forums but since I'm a newbie I figured I would say my thanks here. So, a huge thank you to Archeal and everyone involved. I don't care if this is to mushy or gushy or nerdy or whatever. THANK YOU-THANK YOU-THANK YOU!

For someone who's broken FFT normally inside and out, thrashed through the story mode no problem while being underleveled 10+ prior to Bethla Garrison and never grinding there on out (no calculators).
Someone who's only managed to steal Elmdor's equipment once and it was one of those 20+ resets (not bragging, just trying to give you guys an estimate of my power level [which is definitely not over 9000]).
Does this mod make the game a slam your head into the wall trial and error? Or is it legitimately possible to pass the later parts of the game with very careful and deliberate tactics -without- having to constantly reset for AI manipulation?
I understand that the above trial and error is obviously something that will exist, but is it intended to be this way, are most fights going to be a 20+ reset monster?
I'm really excited to try this out, but I don't like backing down from a challenge (when issued from a lifeless video game that is) and I'm not sure I have the patience to see the whole game through if every encounter is going to be like what getting Elmdor's equipment was for me in the normal version.

There's a differnece bewtween losing and spending. Losingtime is when it is a total fucking waste. You will SPEND a lot of time.

This actually tell me you might do well. I mean, what you did in vanilla is fucking worthless for this, but just know you can't beat this game by grinding.

The only trial-and-error is trying to figure out a strategy that works. You aren't going to need to learn AI exploits or any of that shit. I was probably on my 4th playthrough before I had any idea what the AI was going to do. The only AI manipulation I can do is very minor stuff that isn't necessary at all.

Most? No. Ch1 will probably kick you in the nethers as you learn to play, but once you got the mechanics down I'd say the average battle will take 1-4 tries. There are a few fights that can be pretty rough, but they are pretty rare prior to the end game.
Dippn, on 23 May 2014 - 05:46 PM, said:
It's not. I can think of 5 battles that will take you more than a few tries once you get the mechanics down (prior to Ch4). There is one thing to keep in mind to keep you from having a terrible time.
Enemies are usually a few levels higher than your highest level party member. Their gear is based on their level. S if a battle is kicking your ass, going out and grinding is not the right option. Think about WHY it's kicking your ass. Only grind for a specific reason. Need a certain ability? Go for it. Need money to buy gear? Go for it. No idea, just want to get stronger? Red light, enemies get stronger too.

You can generally learn to predict the AI about midway through your first playthrough. Keep in mind that I'm talking about a very basic battlefield prediction, not the kind of stuff we do (we know how the AI will react to X most of the time).

Chapter 1 is like a tutorial.
And while I agree with the 1-4 try estimate, do keep in mind these are 1-4 reasonable tries, or strategies. This does not include you missing a low% ability (or the enemy landing one) and then resetting the fight. This is something that a lot of people, myself included, do because after a while you get tunnel vision.

This is the single worst cause of every new player's woes in 1.3. Great advice.
