Cuz I was interested in trying this but I'm looking for more of a tactical challenge than a numerical one, thanks ^^
Does this mod require grinding or is it more about playing intelligently?

If you are looking for a tactical challenge, you will not be disappointed.
About Kureji Lufia:
There are two versions of Kureji Lufia - the normal version and the hardcore version. Whereas the hardcore version requires a ridiculously high amount of grinding, the normal version only requires a bit grinding, but mostly focuses on the tactical aspects like choosing good items and the best equipment.
Also notable is that it's designed for the Retry Mode which is available right from the start so that you would automatically get more gold and experience, anyway.
It might be a good wise to actually use some rare gear. However, the non-hardcore version in fact is quite forthcoming because firstly the drop rates for some nice stuff like for example the old armor is higher than in the original and secondly you can buy a lot of stuff like some blue chest items, Miracles or even stat increasing potions at the very end.
There are only a very few places where you actually have to grind. You might have to grind for the first Gades, but that one is skippable, anyway. And you might want to level up a bit once Arty joins the party, but that shouldn't take too much time considering you play Retry Mode and you know the right places. And when you reach Doom Island, you might want to buy as much Potions and Miracles as possible so that you should go buy stuff whenever you have full money so that you don't waste the money you'll receive.
The Egg Dragon, well, he's a league of his own, however.
About Spekkio Lufia:
There's also the Spekkio Lufia patch which is basically unmodified enemy-wise, but has a few new optional encounters. However, no one here requires grinding (except the Egg Dragon in order to reach his stronger forms - considering he gets more dangerous the higher the level is).
The main focus is using good tactics. La Puella, one of the new optional bosses, for example can completely annihilate a badly prepared level 99 party, but can fall against a well prepared party with levels below 50.
The bottom line:
The main focus lies within tactics. You have to choose wisely what you equip because you have to consider quite a few tactical issues like status ailment protection and which IP moves you would like to use. You might want to use quite a few IP moves which you high likely would never consider in the vanilla game.
Also some items might be handy which might not be that useful beforehand. Despite having Valor, there were some situations where I was really happy to have stuff like Revives/Regains or Ex-Potions.
If you want to use other tactics, this stuff is for you.
You will learn a lot of things which you high likely never bothered with in the original.
