They're 1/2 resistant to Earth, and absorb Fire, Ice, and Bolt. They're weak to Water and Hidden, and can be hit by Gravity attacks. They've got very high defence for that point of the game, so using Gravity and defence-ignoring summons is the way to go. You can also inflict Stop on them, so Aeris' Seal Evil would be a good opener.

Here's some more detailed notes on each enemy group and the weaknesses they have which can greatly speed up the fights:
Also remember that ATB setting is important; it might be better to use ATB Wait on full speed so you can control the pace of the fight better. On Active, you'll find the enemy going turn for turn with your party which can drag things out. Setting battle text to high in the Config menu can also help buy some time during the Train Driver/Scorp fights.

My Kiss of Death did not work on the first battle, so I avoided using it. Bad Breath sorta worked. I forget that Dual and Poison aren't the same thing, so I figure if Poison fails, so will Dual. Killing the Train Driver was easy, it's just by the time the Scorpion was finished, I would have a minute left and then it would start talking. Demi 2 and Bio 3 would kill the driver in an instant.
Thanks for the help. I think I know why the future Proud Clod fight took so long since I figured Dual is Poisonish. Hey, since most of the weaknesses make sense (Poison kills humans, Lightning/Earth/Water hurts electronics, Holy kills Jenova/Evil things, WEAPONS absorb Holy since the Planet created them) how would you suggest thinking about Dual as a status? I wouldn't guessed using Dual against high HP things.

Dual is a tricky one; it works best at low level as it'll reduce HP by the same proportion regardless of enemy HP (unless it exceeds several hundred thousand, in which case it seems to have a 'cap' of some kind). I left more enemies vulnerable to Dual than you might expect (along with other statuses) pretty much because a lot of people don't expect them to be weak to statuses by that point; something I learned from Gjoerulv's Hardcore mod, it feels better if there's a nice surprise status you can use to get the upper hand on an otherwise tough boss fight.

EDIT; Ok, I finally got the battle to play through like it should and the area to load. So either I have insanely bad luck (a good possibility), or something about the Ziegfried fight can cause the game to crash horribly. Bleh.

Do you have the hotfix patches installed?

Given that the memory leak happens during this transition to make Yuffie Warping possible, the cause might depend on something that's occurred elsewhere (previous game overs, previously playing music, etc). Were there any other mods installed or is it just NT?

Just NT. And I tend to close FF7 because I'm already aware of and don't want those sorts of issues (plus it lets me more accurately guage what enemies have what items when stealing).

There seem to be odd instances of random (well not random, but insistent) crashing happening that then vanishes. It must be something to do with Steam or the way FF7 Steam works with its online stuff. Maybe the hooks to check for achievements?

My computer is an old potato, and I barely trust it to run software that is almost twenty years out of date.
So no, I doubt it's an issue with "Steam" as I don't have that. I'm leaning towards the "Never buy lottery tickets or an airplane may crash on top of my house" variety of bad luck I seem to have. :shrugs:
Anyways, now I'm dealing with Proud Clod freezing. Gonna have to figure out what in the hell I can do to avoid that. And yes, I have the current "NT 1.4 HotFix Flevel" installed. >_<
EDIT; Ok, not attacking the middle part seems to have bypassed that issue. That said, is the "Grosspanzer-Mobile" that shows up after the Proud Clod supposed to be unkillable? Items do not work, physical attacks do not work, status effects do not work, summons do not work, magic does not work. It is literally (not metaphorically) unkillable, and I have found nothing that bypasses that.

If it's an old PC, then it might just be having trouble with the game; there used to be a lot of threads about getting the game to run on really old machines on Qhimm; if you're using Aali's Graphics Driver then it's likely a performance issue though I hear tell that the original unmodded game without the Driver can be very buggy.
Grosspanzer though is an NT problem; that's due to the AI flags not passing correctly; have you tried the scene hotfix patch? I had a quick stab at fixing it. The flevel patch is for game script rather than enemies. I might just have the giant turret pass vuln to the main body in future instead, bypassing the two small turrets and the headaches.

Well, it's not that old, but yeah, it can run old games just fine (Half-life, FF7, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Neverwinter Nights 1, Dungeons Keeper 2, Playstation emulator and games, etc.), it just can't fun anything graphics heavy or newer (It can run Morrowind, but not Oblivion, as an example).
Also, it seems that with Proud Clod and Hojo, too many multi-enemy attacks (Shinra Bomb, Fletcher Rockets, Bird Wing, etc.) seems to have caused it to freeze as it was doing for me. No clue why either. And no Aali Driver installed.
And huh, no, I didn't realize the bigger patch didn't include the issues the smaller patch dealt with. I'll add that to things then. Already past Midgar, but useful info to know. ^_^
