Hi everyone, I'm Katy and am new to the site. I/we build high quality custom carts, English translation games, put modded games on real hardware, etc. and have our own custom boards for the Snes carts(thus the name...). BTB, the co-creator of BNW, directed me here and suggested I join, so here I am. I've already met some of you on Etsy or on other sites, and would be happy to meet others and answer any questions...and I probably have a few questions of my own...

Glad to see you here. You already know Gi Nattak (Mike) and myself, and I believe I told you about Hart Hunt, who created Mega Man X Hardtype (and is currently working on MMX2 Hardtype). If you haven't already, you might shoot him a PM or post on his forum. He's one of the kindest people I've ever met, and I'm sure he'd like to hear from you.

...this actually brings me to a question that I haven't thought to ask up until this point. How in the hell DO you get Return of the Dark Sorcerer to run on a cart, anyways? As far as I'm aware, RotDS doesn't work on original hardware because of how expanded the ROM is.

IIRC, the only issue with ROTDS on a cart was something about using too many sound channels on expanded music causing the music to sound bad for many songs. That has been fixed since.

its an extended hi rom game. basically the snes has 2 mapping modes- hi rom and lo rom. both mappers are capable of running 4mb games. the ex (extended) hi rom uses an additional address line to double the 4mb capability to run the bigger games/bigger than 4mb. Our custom carts are designed to run those games. there's a hack called Crimson Echoes that is ex hi rom as well. the max capability of the snes is 12mb, and there's one game that is that big in size- Star Ocean.

While I wouldn't argue against that (lol), I'd imagine that these hack repros aren't exactly flying off the shelves so to speak enough to warrant any financial kickback to the hack author(s)... at least the FFVI ones anyway, the Zelda ones (and possibly others) could very well be another story.
But along with the cost and time it takes these people to create the cart and then do the footwork selling it, as well as possibly some legal risk involved, and have it at all worth it for themselves considering it's usually more of a side-hobby instead of a primary business venture in the sense that it's a specialty store compared to current gen mainstream, I doubt they could do that and still stay in business with the current prices of the games.
Could be wrong though, I'm really not too sure how popular/demanding or lucrative it really is.
And I certainly do respect your opinion! Especially considering how broke and unemployed I currently am ;_; But the fact of the matter is they really don't have to do anything, so a cart or two sent the way of the author is a most welcomed gesture indeed. As well as the whole getting in touch with/asking permission, but again that's not mandatory as well, just the right & moral thing to do I guess.
That's just my 2 cents about it, hopefully I made a good point or two somewhere in there lol.

I'm not saying it should be a lot. Just something. If I ever finish my mod, and someone out there is selling it, if they bought me a half gallon of cheap shitty vodka every few months (like $20) I'd be happy.
