In all seriousness, mad props LandonRay. This is something that I am going to devote some time to for sure in the coming months.

On a side note, I'm looking really forward to playing Dancing Mad one of these days (when all my free time isn't being devoted to this working on this mod) it looks like a lot of fun!

So, how did you do it?
A single Flare Star kills my two 99 optimally-equiped mages. Not two mention double Flare star, wich just kills everyone without remedy.
So, either Quina is a mandatory character for Mighty Guard, it comes down to luck, or I'm missing something.

Note that you don't need to be 99 to beat the game, not even for Ozma.

Yeah, but since I found an extremely fast way to grind, I said to myself "why the fuck not? Just this time". I normally hate grinding. I guess it serves me well. I should have sticked to my convictions
But... I should confirm this, but I think I would have noticed if it damaged everyone equally. It should take 3960 HP to each character, but I remember it damaging everyone in the order of 5000+, and not everyone equally...
I will check it, because it would not be the first time my mmory fails me, but is there any chace this attack has been modified?

Holy shit.
That explains it.
My high-HP characters can survive one, and bringing evasion into play, my party can manage a Flare Star and end up with 2-4 characters alive.
Double Flare Star spamming? That's another story. I can try this weekend, play with the equipment and bet everything to evasion, but I'm still not very optimistic. We are talking a possible 12870 damage to everyone EVERY FUCKING TURN.
How lucky can one be?

So, I almost had him
Ok, didn't know that either, so, I can keep him from doing a DFS as long as I stay put...
Last question: how low must his HP be in order to counter with FS? If I can strike him down with a couple of reflectx2 flares, I start to see how this is doable, even at Level 99.
Also, I didn't say it before, but congrats on the patch. I think is the best of the ones I played (VII, VIII, IX). Really enjoyed it.

I believe he starts counter attacking when his HP is around 50% (approx. 27,000), then the probability of a counter attack increases considerably when his HP is low (approx. 13,000). He can counter with either Curaga or Flare Star, however if he has Reflect up he will only counter with Flare Star.
Those number are just a best guess, I'd have to actually check to be more accurate. It could be 36,000 and 18,000.
Personally, I tend to take out most of his health with fully focused Reflect x2 Flares. However, having Amarant equipped with Power Throw, fully buffed with Empower, and throwing Ultima Swords also works quite well.
Also, watch out for Necron. He is the third most powerful enemy in the game, behind Hades and Ozma.

Next time I play through FFIX I'll need to tweak some things. Ozma for instance.
Edit: I'd do it now, but I'm working of FFX and thinking about working on FFX-2.

I beat Hades and found him definetly easier than Kuja lol

My party:
Zidane lvl 67
Steiner lvl 59
Eiko lvl 51
Freya lvl 58
Auto-Haste and dmg buffs for Zidane, Ultima Weapon absorbs Holy dmg
Steiner had high magic eva and auto-reflect to counter Flare and Holy
Eiko had Angel flute to absorb Holy dmg
Freya had also high magic eva and auto-reflect to counter Flare and Holy.
I casted Luna with Freya to Zidane to get more attack pwr, then kept spamming him with Eiko's Might. Steiner used Shock. Freya was supporter with White Draw and phoenix downs. I had some luck also.
