Idea for Cyan

Hello all, I'm new here, just got into the world of patched ROMs thanks to stumbling across BNW and thinking, "My god that looks awesome." So I've started my playthrough and just reached South Figaro with Sabin, Cyan, and Gau and have yet to do the other two branches before the battle of Narshe. I kind of lurked a little on these forums before downloading the patch and was intrigued coming across comments about how amazing it was that Cyan didn't suck. He and Gau were always the characters I was most likely to leave on the airship when going after Kefka. Now that I've recruited him I'm pretty impressed with him. The quick bar on the Bushido gauge definitely makes him far more useful than he used to be, however, as much as I hated him in vanilla the way he works now just doesn't seem faithful to the Cyan I remember. I was thinking that if I was designing a patch (which will never happen) I'd make it so you could just select one of his techs from a list, and then the lower down it was on the list the longer it would take for Cyan to perform the attack. That way his slowness is preserved, but he's not holding up the rest of the party while they're waiting for him to charge. I've also found with his Bushido gauge is maybe a bit too quick, I've sometimes overshot and selected the tech after the one I meant to do, so this would prevent that as well.
A couple of other random observations about the patch, as long as I'm here:
1. When Kappa's giving his little Gau tutorial he misspells "encounter" when explaining Leap. Not a huge deal, but if I were BTB or Synchysi I'd want someone to let me know.
2. I noticed somewhere on this site that Green Cherries no longer remove Imp status. Why? Wasn't that the whole point of them? The Printme says that they now have a calming effect, whatever that means. I suppose they remove Berserk. And I don't see Imp Armor in the Printme either; can I no longer turn Relm into a badass Imp Warrior and not have to look at her stupid face? Also—getting back to Green Cherries—I always thought it would be cool if you could use them on Umaro in battle and have the same effect as in the fight against him.
3. And, uh, I guess that's it. The patch has been top notch, I'm really enjoying it. Thanks for making it. It's weird to be having actual difficulty in the random encounters this early in the game. I suppose it's weird to be having actual difficulty, period. Back in the day I just wouldn't let people equip Espers, except for maybe Terra/Celes/Strago/Relm; it'll be nice to fiddle around with them again and not have them break the game. Kudos on a job well done.

Nice to see other new players enjoying the patch. Had a great time with it myself
Imp equipment has been removed entirely on account of talking moogles and guys suplexing spectral trains being somewhat believable, but little imps with spears outdamaging the entire party just stretches the suspension of disbelief too much - don't worry though, Relm can still kick ass regardless.
As for the green cherries, their function is not noted in the initial printme so I'll post it in spoiler tags in case you rather want to find out yourself through experimenting, but they have a new application as well:

I will say that the Bushido gauge with Cyan is a flavor thing that's unlikely to change, I think. It's like how Sabin's commands are a reference to fighting game combos; Cyan's doing that samurai thing where he waits for the proper moment to draw and strike in one motion. Or something like that.

Well I don't know how hard it'd be to code, but maybe after you select the Bushido the ATB gauge could turn into a Bushido gauge, and it could fill up faster or slower depending on the technique. Maybe give the bar a fun color like purple.

Way more difficult than it sounds, and not anywhere near worth the effort.
Missing on a Bushido is fine with me. It's similar to Blitz in that manner; it's not difficult, but you still may screw it up one or two times out of a hundred.

and unlike blitz you still get something, it just won't be the thing you wanted.

So I'm about to enter the Magitec Research facility, and I just noticed Celes seems to be stuck on 4 SP. Is there something I could've done or equipped on her to prevent her from gaining SP?

The suggestion you have for Cyan is actually how the new Mobile/PC remakes handles Bushido. I'd say it's pretty neat. There's also a patch called SwdTech Ready Stance on RHDN that causes Bushido to work like that, except that the charge bar is still used to select techniques (instead of selecting them from a menu like in the remakes). I don't know if it's compatible with BNW though, and the delays likely do not match how BTB balanced Bushido.

Re-doing Bushido like this would require re-balancing, yes. Also, one particular Bushido (8, Cleave) really doesn't work under that system.
