I've not heard of that before; maybe it's corruption of some kind? I'd try deleting the entire FF7 folder and then uninstalling through Steam (saves should be kept) before reinstalling. With a default set of files, try entering your data folder again (maybe the installer ran afoul of some security thing and made a mess?). It sounds very unusual (and bad) that entering a folder on your PC would cause a freeze.

I've never heard of this happening before. Maybe it's some kind of file protection? I'll put it to the people at Qhimm and see if they've heard of this problem before.

So the guy on Qhimm suspects it's a hardware error of some kind, but I'm thinking it might be a problem with the registry not being able to pinpoint the folder. Have you used anything like 7H's game converter or installed FF7 Steam to a different directory/drive in the past?

Really enjoying the mod a lot, but I've run into a problem that I don't know how to resolve -
After meeting Red XIII for the first time and being sent to the jail in Shinra Headquarters, I get the text box asking me to select between 'I wonder how Barret is doing' and 'I wonder how Red XIII is doing'. The problem is that the text box is broken (the text overruns the line) and there's no selector icon (the little white hand). The game isn't frozen because I can still enter the menu, but no matter what I press I can't select an option to progress the story.
Realising that a lot of people on this thread are further than I am in the game, which means it can't be a universal bug. I'm pretty sure I have the most up to date version of 1.4, as I only downloaded on Tuesday. The only thing I can think of is that both RedXIII and Barret in my game have custom names that completely fill the allowable space, which is maybe making the text in the box run too long?
Would be great if you could take a look at it when you have a moment. Thanks for all your hard work on the mod - the 'Curator' encounter made me laugh a lot.

It'll be a custom name of some kind; I tried to leave sufficient space when re-sizing text boxes to allow for longer names but the margin isn't wide enough and capitalized letters also increase the length. I'll resize those boxes and get the next set of patches up tonight so you can progress (there'll be a lot of other fixes in there too for later stuff).

Thanks man, that's really cool of you - but if you're talking about the hotfixes you just posted, I just had a test with them and I'm still getting the same problem?

I'm certain I can win this one eventually, but the difficulty of this fight is so out of whack compared to everything else... I had an easier time beating all the floors in Wutai's pagoda than in this fight.
Editing to add:
Found an odd bug. Cid's level 2 limit break "Hyper Jump" has crashed the game twice now in this same fight. I haven't used it outside the fight yet, but I keep getting a generic error message.
Since this still hasn't been responded to, gonna add in one more question. Is there a way to remove the "can't heal" debuff inflicted by Rudra? Or do I have to cheese it the same way I did the Jenova that shows up after Aeris gets Aerised?

Sorry for the delay; the Jemnezmy fight can be pretty tough due to the vanguard of Frogs disrupting things + the damage output she has, but you can simplify things with a few status ailments; Silence + All should prevent things like Frog Song and Beta from being used which makes it more straightforward. To that end, Aeris' Seal Evil Limit is likely the best opener.
Hyper Jump is broken by Aali's graphics driver, and unfortunately was carried over into the Steam version which uses what is believed to be an adapted version of that fan-made driver. There's some other oddities with Limits as well; Big Brawl won't display damage numbers sometimes and other spell effects that use transparency can have an odd 'fading' effect with repeated use; Quake3 can also load Menu textures when the columns break apart.
The Rudra debuff is the same as the Jenova one if I remember correctly. You can get around it either by killing/reviving the character or by having some other elemental absorption on them (so if you set them to absorb Ice, you can heal them a little using Ice spells).

Are you sure it clears on death? Because I missed several times with phoenix downs in the two flights. I never tried to use life, because I figured if the Phoenix downs didn't work, life wouldn't either.
Either way, I abused the elemental absorb rings to get through both of the fights. I think the trouble I had with rudra was related to trying to find a way to counter the healing debuff instead of just brute forcing through it. Either way, it's not as bad as I first thought it was, it just took thinking about the fight for a minute first.

If revive stuff is missing while they're KO'd then I must be wrong. I took a risk with Rudra in making her a bit tougher and using some unusual statuses because of her heavy lean toward Ice attacks and the battle not being a game over if it's lost. Glad to hear you got through it though; Alexander should be very useful in the Whirlwind Maze.

Bad ones
When I choose to start the ride out of Midgar I end up facing Rubicante GT twice in a row.
When I bring Aeris, Barret, and Cloud to the start of the Corel Mountain climb and talk to the hiker sitting down, Cloud gets stuck on Aeris running to Barret.
Large Problem
I'm at Nibelheim the 2nd time after Cosmo Canyon. I'm level 37 and I've done all the Fort Condor stuff. When I go talk to the Commando Captain in front of the mansion and tell him I'm with AVALANCHE, I first get taken to a difficult black screen battle with :| who is level 255 with 9999 HP. It's a weird two headed crab thing and all of his attacks are insta kills (between 8K and 9999 HP), the battle IS WINNABLE but the experience maxes out my characters to level 99 (or the reserve party members to level 88ish) and gives about 50000 or 5000000 AP. THEN I get taken to the Commando battle. I feel like this shouldn't be here.

These were issues back when 1.4 was initially released; you need the scene + flevel hotfix patches: http://www.insanedif...oad-links-news/
They're applied in the same way as the main installer. There's a lot of other problems that have been fixed since then as well.

There are at least 5 times where the Fort Condor stuff doesn't trigger after the Forgotten City. I've been really diligent following Fort Condor. Before the Aeris stuff and after the Aeris stuff I got the Fort Condor transporter along with the screen saying a battle was ready, but never after. When I gained the Highwind went to Fort Condor I was told I had missed 5 battles and they were out of money.
Another thing, I read all of the documentation and I've got a suggestion. The fights at the Corel train section are waaayyy too long for the 10 minute time limit. Even after using Demi3 (Eagle Gun, doesn't seem to work for the others), Quake 3/Bolt 3 (most of the enemies weaknesses), Haste All, and Slow plus MP Turbo on Bolt 3 those fights are not doable with the time limit. Plus the talking sections for the Robo Scorpion (which is unSenseable, so the HP is above like 30K) fight and "Gilgamesh" (17.5K HP) make them take even longer. Or are you not supposed to even fight them and use Teleport or Remove? After reading the documentation where it sounded like the Corel train fight was easy or moderate (since missing Comet was unlikely). Or is this to force you to do Fort Condor fight to make the fights winnable in the allotted time?

Sorry for the delay in replying.
Fort Condor has a few battles that can't be accessed; three take place during the Weapon Raid on Junon, I think.
The Corel Train often raises some eyebrows; it's doable in the time, but needs a very focused set-up. I'll look at easing it up by reducing enemy HP and some other means (Scorp's animations are quite slow, so I might need to do something there). The best route to take is physical attacks (augmented with Bolt/Water + Elemental) for their quickness over spells; you can also use status ailments on each of the fights (Stop on Eagle Gun for instance) to help speed the fights up.
