One (fancy) way to make sure someone doesn't die is to cast Life or Full Life on them while they're still alive, so the AI basically won't bother targeting them. That also works with healing. You'd need someone with more speed than the monks and preferably Mustadio to do that. Or you can just try to use Protect, Shell, Reflect or healing to keep him alive.

Had the same issue with Golgorand, but it worked after restarting the emulator and using a memory card save file.

This isn't a reply to the post above. The paranoia about cheating in those videos and the community back then is amusing. Like, who even gives a damn? If someone posts 10 hours of Velius attempts and manages to sneak in a winning save-state run, I would laugh at them for wasting their own time. It's sad how much people seemed to care.
