Insane Difficulty: Insane Mode - Insane Difficulty

Hey! Loving the new updates. I've played throught the game on 1.5.5 and loved the game front to back. Is insane mode devised for those who've already beaten it? I'm trying to play through it right now and I'm hitting a road block against Raditz because he eventually wears the team down. I either run out of healing items (around 25 pizzas and some elixers) or the whole team gets blasted with confuse and it ruins the show. I get that insane is effectively hard mode and I'm welcoming the challenge, but I don't want to put more time into the game because I play extremely defensively, which tends to lead to long boss fights and I wouldn't want to hit major road blocks every time a boss shows up. If that's how it's intended, I'll have to rethink my game plans for these bosses. Thanks!

Insane is meant to be more of the difficulty of the earlier versions (1.0 - 1.2 is where the game was ridiculously hard) where everything was tad trying to murder your facehole. I wouldn't recommend Insane unless your name is Anima or you're a masochist who enjoys pain.

Yeah pretty much that lol. It was also supposed to be a realistic option for a New Game +, to still offer a challenge for those that beat the game, but with all the items carried over it's not all that much of a challenge then it turns out (Hell mode to come someday just for NG+), so yeah just a more stressful, difficult experience than the normal difficulty setting. With the monster stats all raised, and bosses AI have stronger attacks, mostly just in the WoB though and then Final Kefka, and Shenron. Those that can crush this mod like Lockirby and Anima and Tenkarider would most likely choose the Insane mode from a new game to test their skills & enjoy a more challenging run. I've yet to play the game through all the way on Insane, myself. But knowing the ins and outs of the battles already from playing already would definitely help - I'm sure it's possible for you to get through it, without actually going insane lol.

Also P.S. the next update should be good to go sometime next week, just a couple things to do and also a new sprite redone (Kefka's monster sprite) and it's ready.

Yeah! I played through it already once before on normal difficulty, and I just had to change my strategies a little and rely on using defense at the proper moments and using Paladin Icons to boost my defense against physical attacks. So far, I haven't needed to power leveled to take the challenge out of the game. I've had some poor luck against Gilgamesh slapping Astral with the Pig status, but outside of that, I've REALLY enjoyed the challenge the game presents, forcing me to use all my resources and making me think about what actions to take.

Is Hell mode going to be exclusive for NG+?

Yessir Hell mode would be a separately coded difficulty choice exclusive for after beating the game when it asks if you wanna do a New Game +
Something like, "Do you dare to attempt Hell Mode?".

Actually, it will just be included with the other difficulties, so there will be four now to choose from.

The code has been written (thanks to Madsiur for updating it to allow a 4th) and I'm going to implement it and get to work on editing the monster stats and what not. All the other issues that were to be fixed have been done so an update -should- be coming this next weekend I hope. Gotta get an improved Kefka monster sprite from my buddy still, though. But that's it!

Oh, I thought your characters kept their levels too. Even still, the guards would still easily OHKO a character without endgame armour if their damage is appropriate against characters with endgame armour.

I don't think it's a good idea to rely on the player farming a bunch of Golden Apples before heading to NG+. That seems like it's relying on the player to be actively trying to break the system.

@Tenkarider: I'm sure that it's possible to beat the two Guards with Poison + revival. But there's probably no reasonable way to get past anything once you get out of Magitek Armour, unless you grind for ages in the Narshe Mines. In particular, the Guard Leader would tear everything to shreds if he's killing everything in one hit when you have limited revival, and you don't have Poison.

Even for a "this isn't remotely fair" difficulty, expecting farming of Golden Apples seems excessive. Could very easily be walled by the save Terra 3 party situation with a bunch of low HP moogles, or any other situation where guest characters are involved.

Then again, a hacked save requiring a password only available upon completing the game for use with this difficulty could be a viable solution.
