I don't know how many of you Dark Souls players are subscribed to vageta311, but he's been doing an interesting challenge run lately that you guys might be interested in. It requires a lot more in depth knowledge of the game, rather than the pure manual dexterity that ENB's challenge needs. I'll link to the first video, since there's no playlist up for it.



The rules of the challenge:

Rules of the challenge:

1. Must start at SL 1.
2. Must play through normally, no BB glitch or save editing.
3. Must earn the right to level using the point system.

- One shotting a boss gives 2 points.
- Two shotting a boss gives 1 point.
- One shotting a mini boss gives 1 point.
- Use this list for what constitutes as a mini boss(http://darksouls.wikidot.com/bosses).
- Anything that respawns does not give points for obvious reasons.
- I originally took out the Giant rat and included the Berenike Knight, but for simplicity I'm switching it back. This way the mini-boss list is perfect as is and there will be no more confusion. If you already did it the other way it's fine, both are easy to kill.
- Boss fights with multiple opponents allow for 1 hit on each to count for a "one shot". However you aren't allowed 2 hits on each boss for a "two shot" kill. In that situation you must still one shot at least one of them to get the point.
- 4 Kings counts as a double boss, same as O&S.
- Causing an enemy to fall off a cliff due to your attack counts. Purposely trying to make an enemy fall on their own does not.

4. Single attacks with multiple hits count as one attack(ripostes, firestorm, homing soul mass, etc... Since "one attack challenge" sounds lame, I just called it "one shot challenge".
5. When you reach a point in the game where you are stuck and can't progress due to not being able to take any of the remaining bosses down in 2 or less hits, the challenge is over.
6. The goal is not necessarily to win the game, it is simply to gain the most amount of points before you cannot make any further progress. This requires a bit of strategy and forethought as opposed to pure skill.
7. No you may not summon a friend to use the trident dance buff on you.

Basically your goal is to kill as many bosses and mini bosses as possible with one attack. For every point you gain you can increase one stat point. Get as far as you can or die trying. I don't know if I'm going to try it, but I thought you guys might be interested. It's definitely different than the usual "low level no armour no shield fists only" kind of challenges.

Definitely looks interesting... Maybe even enough to tear me away from 1.3 to try it... Though I think with these rules the only way he'll be able to down Quelaag in two shots is to pour it all into strength and use the demons greataxe with insane super hyper mode. That should boost base attack up to a little above 1700 damage, which should be enough to down her with two heavy jumping attacks. Unless there is a way to get a crit on her that I don't know of. With such a stat commitment just do down her pretty much stuck with str build from then on.

I started this challenge earlier today. I have relatively poor DkS knowledge though, and I'm going through it without watching Vageta's videos just so it's not me emulating everything he does.

I did see someone killing Quelaag in one hit though. I believe he had a DKGA with gold pine resin, power within, red tearstone ring and hit her in the sweet spot for extra damage. Did approx 3.3k damage

Vageta uses the asylum demon hammer, but yeah, same strategy. Hit her in her weakpoint for massive damage.

wait... quelaag has a sweet spot? Time to get my google fu on.

iirc, it's pretty much anywhere on her human (upper) body.

If you attack her with bow/arrow it's pretty easy to tell the difference. Staggers her, too, for perma-stunlock funsies.

Starting as a pyro is easily the best call, 2 attunement slots for Power Within + whatever, Fireball to aid in early questing, and nice initial Str.

There's probably a sweet spot where pointing Int to get greater magic weapon is worthwhile over continually boosting Str and using a resin buff, but I don't know where that breakeven is.

Edit: Probably once you can equip whatever the leetest weapon is Greater MW is 198 netdamage, for a difference of 48 over a resin for a 5 point investment. "A" scaling grants... 5 more damage per point, for 25... guess it's a matter of resistance on dual damage vs. single damage?

As someone who's not really a Dark Souls person (I just haven't been able to really get into it) I find this challenge to be very interesting. I might follow this guy.

Vageta311's definitely one of the best players around in DkS. I learn something new just about every time I see one of his vids.

I plan on getting my STR to 34 to 2-hand wield the Dragon King Greataxe which doesn't scale but has very high base damage, then level up int for magic weapon and later on maybe the projectiles too. With decent STR and INT at the same time, manus catalyst would do insane damage.Of course you'd have to kill Manus first, which may or may not even be possible.

Really? That's disappointing. I haven't actually played a non-restricted character since PTDE came out.

24 points so far. Levelled STR up to 22 for a couple of weapons, and just made a Great Club +15. Got enough points now to get to 34 for the DKGA. Think I can kill Quelaag 1 hit with that.

31 str will get you the demon's great axe, which is the highest damaging str weapon. Saves you 3 points you can put into INT later.

Anyone know what happens when you wield two tin crystalization catalysts at the same time? Does the second one provide an additional boost to spells cast by the first?

Nope. Whenever you cast a spell, it's cast with the magic power of whatever catalyst you're casting it with. The TCCs don't provide any buff, they just have an incredibly high magic stat.

I keep forgetting to put them in chronological order. Yes, I beat all the bosses, including DLC.

I haven't viewed the playlist in a while and saw that quite a bit was missing so I put the time in and reorganized the playlist by chronology and added the missing videos. Should look a LOT better now.
