So, I've showed this song to a lot of people, and its received almost unanimous praise.

For the record, I like rap music. Yes, the pop-rap that plays on the radio is awful. But you know, I haven't heard a good song on the radio ever (except Sail. If you like that song, check out the Devildriver version)

Point is, this is IMO the epitome of rap. It has a good beat, the rapper has a lot of talent, and the lyrics...

Well, let me just say I don't feel like many of you will dislike the message of this song.

Thanks a lot for starting this thread. Some people just don't care for hip hop at all and that is fine. However, others just can't stand the stuff they're constantly exposed to (radio rap). Good rappers are truly artists with words and it often takes dozens of listens to pick up on everything and even then you can still miss things. This thread could be a nice compilation of good hip hop music.

I like rap and hip hop when it's interesting and catchy and has a good sound and a good beat. I very much dislike the angry druggy violent thug rap that has literally no redeeming value at all.

I don't listen to it very much, but if I do it's usually super old shool hip hop and only a few songs I've hung onto.

Nah, regardless of how much you like it, that's still extremely inconsiderate and some people do like getting a full night's sleep.

Look, I chill in the chat a lot yet post here very rarely due to the fact that whatever has been asked/discussed has usually been covered by people far more knowledgeable than I am on the topics. When it comes to this music genre, you're one of the people I described as one who just does not enjoy it. That's cool, there's no issue there.

But what value has your post brought to this thread?

There are assholes that blast music of all kinds all over the place. Even my dad used to blast Ozzy Osbourne from his apartment so loud people 2 blocks down could hear the music and constantly complained. Even at 8 years old I would tell him to turn that shit down cause it's unnecessarily rude. The people that do that type of stuff transcend musical interest.

I can understand your irritation 100%. But why bring it here when someone is actually trying to show something positive out of a music genre that has been degraded to a joke?

I should clarify. Me saying that people don't bitch about my metal isn't just me being an elitist prick, it's sort of a fact.

See, rap is all about the beat. It's about very low-end frequencies that travel very easily through walls, even at a low volume. Metal, conversely, focuses far greater on high-end frequencies which do not project in the same way that rap does. I have actually proven this back when I had neighbors I was on better terms with by running sound tests from my apartment to theirs.

Granted, every once in awhile, you get some asshole who cranks up the bass on metal so that it has the same effect as rap. What you basically have here is somebody who likes rap, but is in denial about it.

Yeah, you're right. I dislike rap for many reasons - being forced to listen to it is just chief on my mind at the moment thanks to my downstairs neighbor.

Yes, I hate rap. But then, I hate nearly all genres of music. I'm not usually picky on things, but when it comes to music I tend to gravitate to only a narrow niche.

I'd get just as bothered no matter what is being blasted (unless it's something I actually like), provided I hear it at the same volume.
