Update 6/10/16: Just click on the regular "Chat" button on the site and you'll be redirected to the Discord invite.

This is a link to a communication tool called Discord. It's a free server that supports both chat and voice communications with the gaming community in mind. It supports full moderation and has a lot of functionality that I still need to learn about. This is a vastly superior backup to IRC or Skype for localized communication because it's easier to use.
It's useable in both a browser or with the desktop app. The iOS/android app is also very good at least for text. I haven't used it for voice yet. The browser app is a little buggy but the desktop app is very very good. I've created a placeholder version for us to play around with and I'm interested in getting some feedback.
I know our chat is like home for many people, but I would encourage everyone to have an open mind and give this a good look. It could be for the entire ID community and would be fantastic for organizing things and development discussion.

This thread should be stickied, especially if we want to try to promote this.

I actually did it without even seeing that post, Aura.

Thanks. Hopefully more people will use this. I don't expect it to replace chat, but it's so much nicer than the chat for most things.
Also FWIW, the web client is pretty lousy, so if you're having issues and you're using the web client, try switching to the desktop application.

I want to clarify a couple things so everyone has this information available.
1) Currently, functionality does not equally exist across all platforms. This is specifically the case with moderation. I'm not entirely sure about Android, but on iOS, moderators cannot change permissions or roles, either channel or user. Similarly, the end user does not have the same control over their settings, and the settings don't necessarily transfer from the desktop app to the Mobile app.
2) Picture embedding is disabled for everyone except for moderators and overlords. This is mostly because of the above issue which means iOS users cannot disable receiving picture previews or file uploads. It's not currently possible. Blame Discord. From a standpoint beyond SFW / NSWF content, this also affects data useage, as an iOS user would be forced to download every picture in the channel they were in. The exception to this is modders are allowed to embed and upload pictures in their respective channels.
Until Discord pushes out apps that function completely correct, this is really the only viable solution. Don't open a link you don't trust, don't send NSFW links.
3) To other moderators of the Discord, please let me know when you change the permissions. I'm not a head mod or anything, but I did set all the permissions up and I'm pretty familiar with how they all work (it's weird). If there's any issue with them or the things I just said, just ping me and I'll be happy to address them.

To clarify, the Discord app (at least for Android) is amazing. It's stable, smooth, and beautiful. It's just lacking a few moderation features.

Link still is and will always be active unless I revoke it. Not sure if anyone can besides myself.
It's the first one.
