You can buy them at Seaside Town for 4,000 and they can also be sold by 4,000 coins. However, you can store your gold bars at the Seaside Town bank. This is a way to have much more money since you coin count stops at 9,999 coins.

I think that the maximun gold bars you can store is either 255 or 65535.
