I'm in Zeklaus desert in a 3 way battle against Behemoths and Evil Eyes. For some reason landing the killing blow does not poach them, and instead of crystalizing they all enter the knock out state where there are stars over their head. Secret Hunt is on whoever makes the killing attacking blow.
Is this because it's a 3 way battle?
Poaching in 3 way monster battle?

I think all 3 way battles have everyone flagged with the Immortal tag, so yeah.

Yep. Can't poach Immortal flagged monsters, qhichbis the case in all of the arena battles.
