So I'm on my second play through and just reached Nikeah in WoR. I'm chatting with people and hitting up shops like I do when see the weapon shop inventory and I'm like "oooooooooooohhhhhh right, rods exist!". I think I passed rods by on the first play through thinking I'd play with them next time and then promptly forgot. I really want to mess with them now but I got some questions.
Who do you think is the best rod fighter?
Does rage amplify rod damage?
Can rods hold their own in end game?(I'll probably try anyways just 'cause)

Mog, maybe Gogo (Gogo likely wins DPS but I'm partial to Mog's tankiness)
Yes
Absolutely. Mog's best option is generally swinging Punisher around regardless of build (Even Mogoon uses it), and thanks to the auto-crit property they're always some of your most damaging weapons available.

I don't know how well Gogo functions as a Rod Fighter, though I hear he can do a good job. Don't remember if Rage Rod amplified damage or not.
Relm doesn't really need to bother. You can if there's an elemental weakness to strike. Most of the time, though, you're better off just spamming Flare or Meteor.
Mog makes for a solid rod fighter, with either his vigor or magic build. Rod Fighting mag Mog is perfectly endgame viable and has long been in use by many players here. It's damage is perfectly endgame competitive, unlike Dance. Also, Rod Mog is much easier to use than X-Mog while only being a little weaker. Rod vig Mog technically has higher dps than Rod mag Mog, but vig Mog should be using Longinus or Gungnir in the endgame. Until then, though, Punisher is vig Mog's best option. (1.8.5 is scheduled to change this such that Mogoon is always the superior option).
Punisher Strago is perfectly viable, even in the endgame. He's frail and lacks Mog's dps, but Rods are among Strago's best damage options and they cost very little MP. Punisher's dps is competitive with Black Omen & X-Dark, for only a fraction of the MP cost.

Really, IIRC, Relm's the only rod user who has little business swinging it as a weapon, excepting niche scenarios. The other three all have good reasons to use it. I'm partial to Rod Strago, as I prefer Strago using quick, inexpensive attacks so that I can more MP & turns to use on Strago's supporting skills. If you're looking for a plain dps or tank, though, you'd want either Gogo or Mog.

Relm, Mog, Gogo and Strago all swing rods pretty well.
The Rage multipliers do affect Rod damage and procs (like Dragon for example).
Relm is fast and gets great magic, so she's a good option.
Mog is pretty tanky and does a nice job himself.
Gogo has Rage Multipliers and does very nice damage with them.
Strago of course has crazy magic, and can still be pretty speedy despite his old-man status.
