Logically, if it's possible with reloading it's also possible without reloading -- just the odds of a restart are gonna be high.
But the save/load is there for a reason. Personally I think it's more fun by trying strategies and seeing what works over what doesn't, as opposed to grinding until the challenge is minimized and then plowing through it.
I say this based off my experience with BG2. I don't know exactly how much cheese #1 was capable of.

In Baldur's Gate 1 there's a very small amount of cheese u can apply due to the level restriction [xp cap] so most of the Arcane magic shenanigans
are out of reach, what you CAN do [and its really doesn't count as cheese ] is use the fact the most enemies have rather low saving throws and
Hit Dice.
This is basically my plan... things like "Command" [cleric spell] are under your reach even at Level 01 and they actually work on a lot of enemies lol.
I haven't finish my run yet though... but I tell you this, I never had that much fun playing Baldur's Gate 1, my heart stops at every hostile encounter !
This is great experience whether I succeed or not ^^

Kind of a necro bump, but I'm curious how your playthrough went.
Also, are you playing original BG1, BG1 EE, or BG1 modded onto SoA updated engine (I honestly can't remember what the BG mods are called, it's been so long)?
If you're playing original BG1, are you using Algernon Cloak exploit? It has the ability to charm person with no cool down or limited uses. I think it got fixed in EE, but I'm not sure.
If I were to attempt a solo run, I don't know if I'd do a tri-class run. You'd level so slowly that your spell slots would be so limited. Not that you need them for much. I think I'd go either Fighter/Mage multi or Mage/Thief multi. Blind/Sleep with Fighter THAC0 or Thief hide in shadows backstab could be decent.
However, I can see the benefit of having a level of Cleric. Level 1 spell Sanctuary for avoiding things could be pretty big, but I think Thief can sneak by pretty effectively in BG1 (in BG1 I believe Mages would auto-cast true seeing, because they cheat).
I think one of the biggest issues you'd face in a solo hardcore BG1 playthrough is the risk of travel when you're low/out of spells. If you're traveling from a wilderness map while low on spells/hp, you either risk being waylaid by enemies and must defend yourself, or risk the wilderness camp and get ambushed anyway.
Liberal use of scrolls, potions, and oils could probably take you pretty far. Scroll of Magic Immunity, if I recall correctly, lasts 1 hour (or multiple hours?).
But please update how your game is going! BG1 is one of my favorite games and I'd love to hear more about it.

Necro style!
Yes it's possible. F/M/T class can beat original bg under 15 min using bugs and exploits. Also I believe it is possible to get under 40 min run that is 100% glitchless, it's mostly metter of game knowledge. I would say you can beat bg with any character solo, bard being easiest one to do and fighter hardest one.
