get it? so I just took down my work on it and realized I was putting in more work and time into Zodiac's hack, than Zodiac himself
With unfinished FFT hacks - it is really a case of history repeating itself, over, and over, and over, and over, and over
and people keep surfacing who claim to be different, to actually finish what they start, but it never happens
I've said this before: 1.3 is maybe 10% of the work load required compared to a FULL HACK of the FFT game, and the reason why it's gotten popular is because I actually had a good idea of what I was taking upon myself and actually finished something playable / distributable
that is why 1.3 and LFT are really the ONLY real FFT hacks out there as far as many people are concerned, the rest are really just people dabbling into FFT hacking as a hobby, but none of them take it seriously, not when compared to the scope of what their projects are (people who run full story hacks don't take them seriously enough to ever finish them, and people running 1.3 clones are just in it as a hobby)
It's also rather ironic that LFT and 1.3 are coincidentally run outside of FFH as well
I think I mentioned it before in this thread or elsewhere - but if there is ever a true Full FFT Hack created it will be by people with a mentality and work ethic that is very different than the trends that the FFH fosters
all this while people with some common sense about the reality of the situation (Asmo) get shunned for being too "mean" or "not nice enough"

There will not be a competition - there is no one to compete with.

you should just stop caring, because it's not worth your time to care about it anymore
focus on more important things
what FFH does just doesn't matter to me anymore, it's not my business, and it's not yours either
do the things that make you happy bro

Sure, there's 2 mainstream mods, but you forgot about Rebirth, since that is technically ALSO hosted outside FFH. So there's 3.
Also, FFTA, seriously. Why do you hate FFH with such a passion? I could come in and say FFTA hacking is dead, and it would be just as true as what you just said about FFT hacking, except probably closer to accuracy as on the surface level, there hasn't been a huge amount of progress. There's a very alpha-ish stat/growth editor, an ability stat editor, a "text editor" (all by the same guy, right?), then we have Law Remover and a few other things. You look at FFT in comparison, there's a map editor, event decompiler/recompiler, event editor, sprite viewer, ENTD/Job/Ability/Item/Poaching/Status Effects/Skillset/Job Levels/Propositions/Shop Inventories editor, a Hex Edit injector, a Job Wheel expander, a Formula enhancing hack, ALMA (don't know what to call it otherwise), etc. I could name a few more things, but really, that seems moot.
I'm not bashing FFTA hacking, but I am saying that you have no grounds to call FFT hacking dead when there's more evidence than ever that the capabilities are growing like crazy, especially with the recent surge of ASMers and Animation Effect editors that have shown up. (Yeah, people are starting to make progress on entirely custom animations which excites me.) Meanwhile, I haven't seen much progress on anything FFTA. It's just an observation, and I think you're just blinded by anger, by some wrong done to you, by some grudge... leading you to hate FFH and anything related to it. If that's the case, you're not looking much better than some of the people there that feel like that about Arch and ID.
The only thing about FFT hacking is... like Arch and Philsov have said... there are not enough people dedicated to making something, setting themselves on a gameplan, business like with goals within a year, etc. It's like casual gaming, only it's casual hacking. I honestly somewhat fit in here, but I feel like my reason is pretty good. I'm shelling out $20,000 a year for college, have an instrument to practise, tons of work to do, a job to find so I can pay for myself, etc. If I could go all out on working on hacking, I would be happy to. It would be like an occupation. The problem for me is my life work right now is too time consuming to spend adequate time on hacking.
TL;DR: There's really 3 hacks.
FFTA shut up, FFT is growing just as much as FFTA is in terms of hacking (maybe more, currently).
You're being childish, FFTA.
Arch and Philsov are right, and I fit in that category because my life is insane right now.

There's 3 fully playable modifications of FFT out there, and all have small goals in comparison to the projects FFH *wants* to finish
1. FFT 1.3
2. LFT
3. FFT Rebirth
And all 3 have a few things in common:
1. They are worked on by people outside of FFH. (Some developers for different reasons, but I'm guessing you can imagine what those reasons have in common too)
2. They are actually simple in scope
3. They have people that actually do work
A lot of people like throwing FFT Complete around as a finished FFT Mod, but it's not. The real meat of the idea behind complete (re-insertion of everything WOTL related) is impossible at this point , so it's really FFT Plus Sound Novels and WOTL script. Which is actually very cool, but isn't exactly a full mod but more of a fan translation
I spent 3 years on FFH, and every single good idea for a serious full storyline hack as Philsov described there is dead now
All I see left is more of what we've always had - people working on personal projects for fun and as a hobby, who are just going to drop it all as soon as they start college and/or move out of their parent's basement
Just my 2 cents on the whole "projects that go nowhere" topic.

It seems moot because it is!
FFH has had a great variety of tools to make a lot of nice things possible for a long, long time. The problem isn't creating MORE tools or MORE hacks. You've had those for quite awhile. A Job wheel expander? Who gives a shit about that if you fill it with 30 redundant, boring jobs with half ass concepts that no one cares about playing? The problem is creating stuff people actually want to play, and that is something not everyone can do.
Look at Starcraft 2 and it's editor, for example. That thing gives you more freedoms with the SC2 engine than anything FFH can ever give for FFT's engine
What % of "mods" of SC2 end up going somewhere?
??? (and there's thousands of those, if not tens of thousands)
Think about it

A glorious mess of ASM which allows one to:
- Edit RSM with a variety of equipment-like features (complete with negatives). Like Any Weather can also absorb and strengthen: lightning, Meatbone Slash grants 15% max HP, or Hamedo reduces a unit's speed by half. Just to name a few modifications I already have lined up in my super casual never gonna be done but I can't wait to leave this basement hack.
- A bunch of passives one can input with either job level (job level 8 wizard = +10 max MP either always or always when a wizard or some other conditionals) or abilities (know "Vert jump 5" = +1 Jump)
- Allows one to assign RSM to equipment and other RSM (C-Bag = throw Item, Weapon Guard+Counter onto a single reaction, etc)
- Probably some others.
It's balance kryptonite but it has a lot of potential to modify things that were previously unavailable to the unwashed masses.

You could do a lot of interesting, fun gameplay stuff with that, without it being horribly imbalanced
just depends on who is behind the wheel

I'm not the only one who is talking about ffh. And by the way, when I say dead, I mean fft hacking there, the soul purpose of the site.
EDIT:
I also proposed to lock this topic.

Darthatron is busy with University, which, in my mind, college is more important than ffta :/
OH! And BTW zean, what good are the tools when you don't use them? This isn't a site just for the purpose of hacking FFTA, unlike your site, WHICH IS a site for hacking 1 specific game. With 2,000 + members, you'd think there'd be about 100 + completed hacks. That's all I'm saying. Know hate was ever involved in the conversation.

FFT hacking isn't dead, it's just not interesting anymore, and won't be until a full fledged hack is finished by some very passionate people and draws major interest to it once again (like 1.3 did with fftpatcher)
I wanted to work on that dream with Zodiac but estrogen turned him into a social butterfly with zero interest in hacking

Where would you EVER get that idea?
Just drop the rage, seriously. You need to cool it. It's not serious enough a matter to get that worked up over. That's all I will say.
And Arch, I never said it matters how many tools there are. I feel the same way as you on this. The tools exist, but people don't use them. That's the whole issue. All I was getting at is there's tons of potential to be had with the tools available, not that they're necessary or good for balance. The more stuff that can be done, the better for people that eventually go full-force with a concept.
