Hi guys, I have been doing a difficulty mod of my fav Final Fantasy. FF8. It was the first rpg I played as a kid, and I am re-enjoying the game with a difficulty mod; that changes:
-Enemies-
+50% HP
+100% STR/VIT/MAG/SPR
Healing items do not damage undead enemies
And stat alterations on your characters.
I am doing it as a Let's Play with commentary, in 720p. I have never done in game commentary, so excuse my mistakes. (And yes, I have decreased the size of the watermark.)

I am curious to hear any feedback you have. I also want to start challenges or modded difficulty runs of different games. So if you have any suggestions of great challenges you'd like me to play through I want to hear. I am thinking about doing some solo pokemon challenge playthroughs.

Just a couple of pointers without having watched the videos (I just woke up so bear with me):
1) A blanket HP and stat buff is never a good idea. It's a really lazy way to increase the difficulty. If something takes you longer to kill, that doesn't make it harder, it just makes it more tedious. Or rather, it's harder on a tedium level, not harder on an intensity or engaging level.
2) The problem with FFVIII was that you would spend so much time drawing from enemies and you'd be afraid to use those spells because you'd be using them for junction. That is, by far, the most massive flaw in the entire game. And this is coming from someone who loves Final Fantasy VIII.
That being said, I don't wish to discourage you but I think you need to take another look at the game modding-wise. I'll check this out a bit once I get home from class, but my initial thoughts from just see the changes you've made aren't anything that would make me desire to play it. I just wanted to be honest, because sugar coated feedback is bad feedback.

FF8 is one of my favorite games and #2 on my list of games I want to see modded (with #1 being Legend of Legaia).
One thing that I would love modded would be the junctioning and the stats they give you. I recently watched a Let's Play by someone who played through the entire game...on disc 1 he got Triple Spells through card modding and junctioned to strength. Pretty much every fight thereafter with the exception of the thing in Ultimecia's castle was a one shot or pretty close to it if HP exceeded 9999.
Haven't watched your video yet though so I'll watch and see
Edit: I have now watched the video and here are my thoughts.
1. Kudos to you on your mod I don't know if it's your first or you've done them before, but it's cool that you're doing a mod.
2. So, I re-read your mod details and that's cool what you did...it will definitely make the game harder. But, Advent was right that it will make the game much more tedious, not necessarily much more difficult. From that video, I think that keeping your HP at max and just having Squall attack is a perfectly acceptable strategy to keep you alive for the Ifrit battle. Yes, it would make the battle longer and he might KO a character occasionally if he double turns you and attacks the same character twice, but that's not that difficult to overcome, and is a basic strategy for Vanilla FF8 as well.
3. One thing that I think should be done is change some attacks of enemies. For example, the caterpillar outside wasn't too difficult it seemed like...just annoying because every fourth or fifth turn you'd have to heal from his attacks. But you could draw cure from him so it wasn't that big of a deal. Why not give him something like break or berserk? This would make him a scary enemy to run into early game, and would make it much more difficult. Another thing I was thinking...make that draw point in the fire cave "Esuna" instead of "Fire," and then you could have Ifrit have spells like blind, silence, confuse, sleep, or even pain (in addition to fire and his physical attacks). This would make him a lot harder since now one character could constantly be facing status but not impossible. The "Esuna" draw point could be like a "foretelling" of the battle to come.
4. A problem that I personally don't like about FF games is that many of them become easier as the game progresses. FFT Vanilla and FF8 are both notable examples of this. I feel like once you get the proper spells to junction, this game would become much easier, and not changing things like item drops, card locations (or mods) or magic drawing will just result in a slightly more difficult game...not one like 1.3 or Mario RPG Armageddon where the game's difficulty requires new ideas and strategies altogether and becomes progressively more difficult.
5. Unless you modded it, the less time you have on the clock in the Fire Cavern when you actually beat Ifrit, the higher your seed rank would be. That's why you get a time limit choice...while it's still technically possible to get the best seed rank by having 40 minutes on the clock, it takes you like...2 or 3 in Vanilla to get to Ifrit and maybe another 2 or 3 to beat him so you'd sit around an extra 30 some minutes to get the best SeeD rank.
6. Nothing wrong with your commentary. So don't feel it was awkward or anything.
These are just my thoughts, and I definitely appreciate the fact that you're modding one of my favorite games. However, for me, based on just that video I wouldn't be interested in playing it above Vanilla. If anything, I would just limit myself on junctioning magic or create my own self challenge that could increase the game's difficulty. Like Advent said, just being honest with you, so no hard feelings or anything.
