Between suicide and the fappening and some 4chan users wanting the doxx the piss out of everything, I can see him wanting to mod some of this stuff. Past that, given how little moderation I've seen going on (not that I frequent /b/ or /v/) the more I am convinced that the whole thing is just a very clever ploy by 8chan to get users, and not that much is actually happening/happened on the 4chan front.

Also... he was apparently getting death threats as well, and in general hates all sides of what's going on and just wants out. Can't blame him.

I care about it, but not enough to label it as "important": Systems like these always end up collapsing in on themselves, it's funny how it happens over and over and over again and every time people are like "wow, where did I go wrong?". Well, you went wrong by being a fuckin' idiot, that's where.

GamerGate really just isn't that surprising. People have known this shit goes on for years now, the only difference is that now it's in the public eye, so all of a sudden a lot of people who just sat back and accepted it are now up in arms, trying to ride the shockwaves to enforce some kind of change when they were too lethargic to get up and fucking do anything about it in the first goddamn place. This applies to every single facet of the controversy. It's fucking pathetic.

We're good at not giving a shit, but it's still better late than never. Besides I wouldn't necessarily say people knew what was going on. These journalists are too good at spinning things in their favor. They're not just playing the victim card. They own it--as professionals.

And yes, everyone knew well enough what was going on. Anyone who plays video games and knows how to use the internet knows that the vast majority of professional reviews are all bought. IGN, despite the paid review posterboy, is not the only one that is afflicted by this.

I think it's a good excuse. Is it not how most people feel? I really think you're overestimating the ability of the public to be informed--especially when they just barely give a shit in the first place. Even a simple google search is too difficult for these kinds of people. Maybe they suspected it, but I doubt they thought it was as bad as it is.

A good journalist can but doesn't. That's the difference.

It's not an excuse at all. If you don't give a shit, say you don't give a shit. The vast majority of everyone who is at all taking part in GamerGate are doing so for any number of reasons, but not because they actually give a shit. They either care because they're pushing some kind of agenda -- in Anita Sarkeesian's case -- or because it's this big scandal, or because all their friends are in on it, or some other bullshit.

And even assuming that everyone didn't know it was really going on, that makes it just as bad if not worse. You assume these people don't know how to Google. I strongly disagree, but I'll bite. This means that the information these people are getting is almost certainly bullshit. Even the links Arch threw up do little if anything to cut through the confusion.

There is an absolutely massive amount of rhetoric and misinformation about GamerGate to the point that 80% of the time what you find is the aforementioned bullshit. Unless you know how to fucking Google, you have no chance of finding anything close to the truth. So, the people go from ignorant to flat out fucking misinformed, which in my opinion is actually worse than just not knowing shit to begin with.

It makes the entire thing way more convoluted and blown out of proportion than it needs to be, not to mention it waters down -- for lack of a better term -- the integrity of those taking part. You know, the ones who aren't fucking morons and actually give a shit.
