With this re-design, my goal is to create clickable buttons out of the forum names. The design I have right now isn't that amazing (as some of you pointed out), so I want feedback on ways to improve it, or revert the changes altogether to what we had before (just columns).

The Last Post and Last Active Topic features are still in the code, just hidden for now. I will re-activate them soon and include them somewhere on the new design.

Please discuss what you'd like to see on this topic.

Looks ok, although it seems like each different box is too big and I think that's because there is a gap on the bottom part of each one. Just seems like the buttons are taking up too much space.

EDIT: Try decreasing the box size by about 30% and see what you think

That gap is where the missing features are going to be. Stuff like SubForums, Last Reply, author, etc.

I can put that info over on the right and make the boxes shorter, though.

If parts of the elements in the design isn't there, I have a hard time giving any criticism. First, being one that has no problem with change, I wonder what this type of design got over the old one? This looks more like a change to make a change rather than an improvement. However, I might change my opinion on that as soon as all the information is where it should be in those boxes. I'm guessing it will be more of a personal touch through cosmetics rather than a change in function and usability. Anyway, I'm interested to see how this design will look like when you're done, so I guess - proceed!

I still wish to know why you're changing it in the first place, of course. x]

If the number of mod subforums begins to increase, I suggest dedicating a page to them. They tend to take up a lot of the index real estate, even if many of them aren't used very often.

So long as the last replier option is still visible, I'm fine with a more button-y configuration.

I prefer lists still, but that's the old/mid schooler in me. All this fascination with buttons either results in too much space or multiple clicks via menus to go anywhere. My desktop is icon heaven/hell, viewer pending.

Its like a lot of people are going back to the AOL designs with the advent of Smart Phones/Tables.

Arch does this every so often. The last time was brutal and not nearly as intuitive as this one. We call it the Clutter Crusades.

I think it's just the desire to change things up. I did something similar every few months or so when I played World of Warcraft. I'd tear down my UI and rebuild it from the ground up, differently each time.

Okay now for real feedback, it's a good step towards the right choices I think. It looks pretty not good right now, but all progress demands sacrifice. I think to go back to the way it was before would be a mistake. All it needs is a better look and it'll be better than it was before.

Last time was just cutting sigs and changing avatars, which everyone likes how they look now :thumbdown:
