Insane Difficulty: Site registration fixed

What problems that were causing this site?.

Trying to summarize:
Outdated captcha made it easy for spambots to get in. What was supposed to be a fix, made registration impossible instead. Captcha removed completely so we once again could register.

A new fix to keep the spambots out is underway, though as this site is done on personal time, no deadline is set for the fix. As registration currently works, the site has a possibility to breathe again, so the most pressing issue has been dealt with.

Development of the site is getting picked up again, slowly but surely, according to the site administrators.

Thanks for fixing it, btw! I've been a long-time lurker and was trying register for a while.

I had taken it as a sign that I should continue to lurk.
