  1. Weighing in on "musn't".  Google says:

Mark Twain, Huckleberry Finn: "So I said it wouldn’t be no use to try to play it any longer, and I would just make a clean breast and tell her everything, but she musn't go back on her promise."

So it's a weird form, perhaps allowable.  But if we're going for consistent Shakespeare, he used "mustn't", with two 't's.  Agree with recommended change.

  2. If I can reply to the presenting question: FFT 1.3 is one of the greatest video game mods of all time, despite its many flaws, and deserves a 1.4 the same way Philsov's 1.2 deserved Archael's 1.3.  The "low hanging fruit" for 1.4.0.1 would be to simply remove some of the CH 4 immortal flags and make those battles more interesting than "Haha! Power Source!"  Seriously, don't change any classes or abilities or speed-is-the-only-stat or anything big-picture like that, just find some ways to make those last-chapter battles a bit more differentiated one from another.

Even easier, there are a few quality of life improvements that would go a long way to making the game more enjoyable.  Your first time through the game, it's easy to be unaware that some units are "immortal," and that can be confusing.  Give them unique sprites.  Honestly, just changing all the immortal-flagged or unique-classed or non-player-accessible-ability-having enemies to look different from the classes you can access as a player would be a great improvement.  Start with Germinas Peak.

  3. Just for kicks, I did a speedrun of (vanilla) Final Fantasy Tactics.  I tried to stream it, but my Internet connection was too spotty and I lost the stream about an hour in.  Anywho, if watching me play FFT while talking to myself for six hours sounds like a good time, enjoy!

    Spoiler

What started me on this adventure was that I saw that the speedrun.com leaderboard had a tenth place time of 9h11m41s, which I was sure I could beat with minimal effort.  I got a good feeling!  That's the way!

  4. Honestly, something I've wanted to do for a while is see retro mod runs.  By which I mean, old versions of mods.  I've though it would be really interesting to see a bunch of people, veterans and newbies alike, running FFT 1.3.0.3 all at once.  The resulting discussion of what improvements have been made would be interesting, and helpful for future modding.  It's one thing to see a problem and fix it; it's another to temporarily return to how things used to be and suddenly realize different ways those improvements could have been attempted.  Like, when the electricity goes out and one reads by candlelight, one might gain an insight into how a well-placed mirror could improve a space even with electric lighting.

Maybe weird analogy.  Still, I like my thought.

  5. So after having a PPF sitting on my hard drive literally for years I finally decided to give this a whirl.  (I downloaded the most recent version first though.)  A friend recently sent me a Steam code for "Stardew Valley."  When I found myself seriously considering whether to play a Harvest Moon clone, I knew it was time to find a good mod, and fast!

Initial reaction: Oh my goodness, there is so much going on.  I just charged in blindly and selected things from menus until everyone was dead.  It worked, but wow, there sure were a lot of things to select from those menus.

The second battle confirmed this.  As opposed to vanilla FFT where one has access to two classes with about three unlocked abilities apiece, here one has a starting party of, what, seven classes to choose from?  Each with four moves or so.  That's a lot up front!  I found it quite overwhelming.

Given my recent track record, I will probably pick this up once in a while every few months or so.  But despite that, I'm glad that I after all this time I've finally played a little Monster Tactics!

  6. There were serious problems with the ID site's ability to allow new members to join the forum, and these problems had persisted for so long that we hung out our shingle over here.  So this place is about MODS!  Of varying levels of difficulty.

  7. More (failed) test results:

Putting in the "Extra value" field a) a full URL, b) the v=? value of a YouTube video or c) the index number of a video within the playlist of the "Media URL" each produces the same result: zilch.

Further observation: When you go to edit a video page, an example "Media URL" is given as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oh4i5ECWblo.  It's not a link, just an unhighlightable piece of text to tell you what a URL looks like.  You can't click on this, but have to type it in to see what video it's not-linking to.  Clearly, this is an amazing opportunity for an embedded Rick Roll.

Ohh, you know how it is. Spriting those tentacles onto Sephiroth takes time. Got a branching storyline to recruit Lamza's Elder Brother to sort out as well, and General Leo to sort. The fun never stops! :) Getting my Princess Bride scenario sorted as well, with Buttercup and Westley, and hey, even Waverly in there. (I really hope you guys have read the book or that reference's going over everyone's head! :P )

Regardless of the state (or not) of Tides (did that just go on hiatus? I thought it died due to hard drive failure or something) in any case it's good to have you back, Kyozo.  Many happy returns!

  9. (With apologies for double-post)

    Horde:

If I could figure out how to (ab)use my Mod powers, I would just edit your video thread directly, but since I can't, here's what you can do to change this from a *video* embed to a *playlist* embed:

Under "Media URL" remove the reference to any individual video and replace it with:
    https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWVfQzx9dUA6_KVdLtlEf4w7L951q68mO

That will link to the playlist, which means that when you back-add the older episodes to the playlist it will automatically begin with them.

    I think.

I still have no idea how the "extra videos" functionality works ... though it sounds cool.

  10. I recall having a bit of trouble putting up videos via playlist last week.  By which I mean, it took me several tries to get it right (playlist rather than video).  I forget exactly what my difficulty was.

I'm playing around with a test thread to try out the "extra video" functionality.  I can't get it to work ... will keep playing around.

    Edit:
    Here's what I know:
When you turn on "Extra videos", whatever title ("key") you give them, each "extra" video links to "videos/threadname/&extra=0" and then "videos/threadname/&extra=1".  Whatever that means.

As we figure this out, we should probably make an FAQ/sticky for future first-time video posters.  Helpful hints might include the following:
To add a playlist (not just a single video), without using the "extra video" feature, do this:

    • Under "Media URL" enter the URL of the playlist, without any reference to the specific video!

So if you want to add a playlist, what you enter under "Media URL" should look something like this "https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnHpnycN1aVf3I5VVBVFvyAwf6LW16tiJ" not this "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47sNva0O_6Q&list=PLnHpnycN1aVf3I5VVBVFvyAwf6LW16tiJ&index=1" or this "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47sNva0O_6Q&list=PLnHpnycN1aVf3I5VVBVFvyAwf6LW16tiJ".
