In the case of rods he's making all sorts of weapon-based special attacks, but Relm and Strago don't have any of these fancy physical bells and whistles, so the interaction issues never come up. Mog on the other hand can Jump with a rod, with a similar outcome to Gogo's shenanigans. He gets the Jump damage boost and some spell procs but no autocrits. The duel-wielding bit on the other hand means Rage attacks are hitting twice, which is big. Rods just happen to be one of his better main-hand choices.

Thing is, I don't think Gogo has any special interaction with his weapons. He's got, what, Jump, Fight, Rage, & Mug? Mog's better at dragooning & there's no reason to Jump with brushes/knives. So, there's really just elemental rod utility that he shares with Mo/St/Re, and dual-wield Rage. If dual-wield Rage works.

Going to update my Gogo guide a bit.

  2. Eh, you & Mishrak see it, but I'm not really convinced. What's that stamina doing that more speed or magic couldn't do? Zoneseek lets you ignore Bahamut for more raw magic/speed. More speed means more turns for support. What's stamina doing? I'll grant status dodge & RegenX, but Regen (ticks) more useful if you've actually go HP/def to begin with & mg.def variance is really quite small.

The RegenX + Black Heart combo is real, since Relm has elemental resistance options with Hides & Shields. So I'd say stam Relm is a bit of a narrow specialist, built on the synergy of Black Heart with Hide/Shield & RegenX. Not bad, just...flat?...compared to mag & spd Relm.

  3. Speed Relm is looking like another ultimate healer type character, though with Zoneseek & Radiant Brush to try and set Shell & Haste or something. Also outputs better damage than Celes & Locke, though frailer & the loss of Osmose's BPow does kinda favor mag Relm for Flare spam.

Half-tempted to separate spd Relm & mag Relm into two distinct builds, half-tempted to just leave them both classified as variants of the same build.

    stam Relm still sad.

Having some trouble with this one.

I've been experimenting with different Gogo builds, one of which is Punisher/Avenger /w Thief Glove. ~50 magic and vigor, Slots/Magic/Rage. The idea is he can switch-hit between pulling magic support next to Gau/Celes with free Go Fish rolls for maintenance heals, or swap to a single target Dragon-beast while stam Gau rages Tumbleweed for boss fights.

Against a Tyranos he'll Hurtmore around 3.1k twice, maybe random cast Dark for 8.5k. Not bad at all. Swapping out Slots for Fight however doesn't seem to do anything special. No noticeable crit cues and the same average damage over a dozen or so fights. Running 1.8.6, did Hurtmore get fixed to put the nix the rod crits?

Then I officially have no idea. I thought that's what I was seeing when I played with Gogo, but apparently not.

Also, added a note that I have little knowledge about Gogo, so people's insights are welcome.

  5. Line-up menu being a full restore is better, just in case the player is indecisive about who gets Green Beret, Knight Cape, or Magic Cube during equip phase, switching those gears around which fiddles with exact HP/MP numbers.

Could have Banon mention that he'll fully heal you once you're ready, so that the player knows that a full heal is coming once they're ready. Would help with this whole issue.

  7. Putting forward an Idea for stam Relm (Relmception):

    • 1) Interceptor can be swapped between Relm & Shadow somewhere in the WoR (Thamasa?). You are not forced to kill Shadow to use Interceptor.
    • 2) Instead of stamina-based counterattack damage with 50% dodge chance, Interceptor's chance to block a physical is related to the character's stamina stat. (something like Stamina/128, maybe?)

stam Relm is supposed to be defensive Relm, but without some unique mechanic to take advantage of (Morph, Chakra, Dance's Stumble), a pure stamina build just isn't good enough as a tank or support build. Relm's main flaw in her defenses are p.def & HP, and lo and behold, she's got a unique mechanic to defend her physically. It just needs to be actually, you know, usable without killing off the game's best glass cannon / speedy support. Also needs to key off the stamina stat to reward building stamina specifically, instead of being a straight 50%.

Give Relm Interceptor, one of Red Cap or Black Heart (works with RegenX), proper elemental resistances, maybe Bahamut, and maybe our RegenX Relmception build can finally be tanky enough to compete with Nuke Relm.

Maybe. Mostly shooting the idea out there. (Also calling attention to the fact that all my character guides are finished).

  8. Welcome.

Equipment shuffling is annoying. I try to flesh out the character's equipment before the Phoenix cave / Kefka's Tower to minimize any back-and-forth shuffling. Phoenix Cave's usually fine, but there's always a little bit of shuffling going on in Kefka's. Power Gloves, elemental armor/shields, & Red Caps/Hero Rings being the main offenders.

Surprised you had so much annoyance elsewhere in the WoR though. I guess you prefer having the same team for a few dungeons before switching out?

Yeah, right as I was making the teams, I remember your comment from before, but didn't have the interenet access at the same to reconfirm who fights what, so I kinda had to wing it abit. Thanks for the tips though.

I had to have Pheonix Locke, Siren Edgar, Golem Sabin, and Fenrir Gau (Basically almost completely a support team) go against Atma and it.... it was awful.

    Welcome.

  10. Spitball for Auto-Cover Mechanics:

    Current

    • Only Defends Wounded Allies, which, IIRC, is allies at less than 1/8 or 1/16 their total HP. Allies you want Cured up very quickly, so auto-cover has very little time to work, or you're trying to play crazy FF5 shenanigans of having one guy tank the whole team's attacks and praying you don't get hit with a big AoE nuke.

    Ideas

    • Cover simply guards allies a certain fraction of the time. Yeah, it's random, but if two of your other allies are frail, odds are, your concentrating physical blows on the bulky tank who can take the hits. Perhaps if you Defend, you get better odds of guarding other allies.
    • Raise the Wounded HP threshold. Same as current, maybe more usable. Not to keen on it, just throwing it out there.
    • Cover allies whenever you Defend. Simple, straightforward, no randomness. Probably op - Golem & Image all ready exist alongside Safe after all. >_>

    EDIT:

Discussing it with seibaby & dn with chat, adding on a little more to the idea:

    • Cover randomly guards allies anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 the time, but the bodyguard always take damage as if they were in the front row.
    • Cover does not work with Defend. Even if you Defend, when Covering an ally, you take damage as if you weren't Defending.
    • To compensate, Image is nerfed to 1/2 chance to disperse upon being struck, not 1/3.
    • Also to compensate, Golem's defense is nerfed down from an almighty 192 down to 96 or 128. (Alternatively, since the new Cover essentially is Golem, in a way, Golem could also become "Sets Safe on Party.")

  11. Good to see someone besides the Figaro bros. get the vote. I'm starting to like vig Terra myself as well. Especially looking forward to 1.8.7, where she'll have a WoR Rune Edge to handle the early-WoR. Also will chime in that she is just as great an elemental mage and cleric Terra & that her regen ticks are beautiful. Didn't do much with dual-wielding last game, will have to try out Wingsuken vs. Apocalypse vs. Apocalysedge.

    2 hours ago, MagiteKira said:

The only real downside to this build is pretty much what I just negated a minute ago; she's too damn frail. Yes, I know what I said, but everything was golden.... until Kefka's tower. She was fine (great even) against randoms, but she really struggled against the bosses, particularly Kefka (Tier 1 and 2 mostly) She simply died too quickly. Best case scenario, I Morphed and got 1 attack off before she died and I had to do it all over again. Fortunately, this can be mitigated quite well with equipment, but against defense ignoring attacks and the like, she's boned. There's also speed, but that's a lesser issue, as Haste makes anyone's speed manageable at the very least.

Kira, if it's helpful, I prefer bringing vig Terra onto Team 2 of Kefka's Tower, where she'll fight Atma, Bolt Dragon, and Myria. She can defend herself against Myria's attacks with a Crystal Helm/Shield, Minerva, Image support, and, optionally, a status relic. Such defenses are tailor-made to declaw Myria, allowing Terra to Morph with impunity and easily break the damage cap (even moreso, now that Myria's p.def has been lowered - dual wielding should break the poor goddess in half). Could even be cute and two-hand Excalibur with no Power Glove, just Black Belt & Ribbon. Should still hit 9999. As for the other two, Bolt Dragon is also easily countered with Minerva & Image, allowing for Morph to break him. Atma can also be attacked with Morph Ice 3 (8k damage, IIRC), followed up with some Morph Icebrand (or, ya' know, be smart, unlike me, and wait for phase 2 before slinging Ice 3 - though Rasp may have a word to say about that strategy).

Her frailty is an issue, and I definitely prefer giving her 8-10 Phoenix or Unicorn ELs so that she doesn't drop in one hit. If you plan on Morphing in the WoR prior to Phoenix, you will need Unicorn. Pure vigor is fine for the WoB, but Morph croaks too quickly against WoR bosses without HP ELs. (I agree that Phoenix is better statistically and opens up very strong elemental mage options). Not surprised you had trouble with Morph in the final fight. That sounds absolutely awful.

  12. "Chaining" random encounters together sounds like it might be doable with the current engine? Wouldn't really know myself, not a coder.

I personally find the "Defend Terra with Moogles" and "Defend Banon & Esper in Narshe" events to be some of the most interesting personally. Outfit & divide your team effectively, defend key positions. Shame that they're both early game, and that there's no real good story event later on that can be changed to another "Defend Someone" event.

Heck, while I'm on the subject, I'd like another Timed Event. Like the Imperial Banquet, maybe with much more time, but actually challenging encounters. Wouldn't mind more multi-party dungeons either, as I find those very interesting too (esp. if you don't equipment switch between parties).

Not that I expect any of this to be implemented anytime soon, or ever.

  13. Still torn between Edgar, Sabin, and Cyan. vig Edgar, vig Sabin, and stam Cyan are just plain beautiful. Gonna stick with Edgar, mostly b/c his other build (mag) is also really awesome, while vig cyan is a heavy late bloomer and stam Sabin is mediocre. Also b/c vig Edgar can go toe-to-toe with the other two builds, though the other two are even easier to use.
